Thrifty Ireland Rental Terms
PaymentAn initial, non-refundable deposit will be secured at the time of booking confirmation. Accepted credit cards are Visa and MasterCard (transaction fee of 1.75% applies).
The balance will be secured directly by the supplier on arrival, along with payment for a full tank of fuel and a security bond respective to the vehicle you have booked. Please ensure you have the funds available on your nominated credit card.
Credit Card
The main driver must be the holder of a major credit card which they must produce on arrival. In the case of a “Chip and Pin” credit card, the card holder must know their PIN number. A credit card is required for the excess/deductible and additional charges such as extra drivers, fuel, parking fines etc. Dollar Thrifty Car Rental accepts MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Diners Club. We cannot accept debit cards, electronic cards or cash. The credit card must be in the name of the main driver. At the time of rental there must be sufficient credit on your card to cover all charges including the excess/deductible amount. WE CANNOT HIRE A CAR TO ANYONE ARRIVING WITHOUT A CREDIT CARD (OR WHO DOES NOT KNOW THEIR PIN) OR ONE WHO DOES NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT CREDIT ON THEIR CARD TO COVER ALL CHARGES.
Charging for No Shows
In the event of a No Show, you will be charged 1 day’s rental for vehicle Groups G, H, N, O, S. The initial deposit paid at time of booking confirmation remains non-refundable for all vehicle categories in the event of cancellation or no show.
Rates are inclusive of third party insurance, collision damage waiver insurance, theft protection insurance, unlimited mileage, airport surcharge, 24 hour breakdown service and Value Added Tax @ 13.5%.
Airport Collections
Airport Surcharge is included in the rate.
Extra Hours
All hirers are allowed a one-hour period of grace provided that the vehicle is returned within our hours of operation. Hirers exceeding this will pay any extra charges directly at the local rate.
Maximum Length of Rental
The maximum length of rental allowed on one voucher is 28 days.
Customers, who rent from us for more than 35 days in a 6 month rolling period, will be subject to the higher rate of vat at 23%. This will be recalculated locally.
Early Returns
We do not issue refunds for early returns.
DRIVER REQUIREMENTS
Licence
To drive a Dollar Thrifty rental vehicle, drivers must be in possession of a full, unendorsed driving licence which they have held for at least 12 months prior to the commencement of the rental. Licences must be produced at the Dollar Thrifty location at the time of collection. Drivers must be in possession of their licence at all times when driving the vehicle. Certain minor endorsements may be accepted – please check with Central Reservations (via the website operator Car Rental Republic / drive@carrentalrepublic.com / +64 9 950 2122) BEFORE making a booking. Licences must be from the country of permanent residence.
Holders of UK, US, Canadian, Australian and all EU member states are NOT required to supply an International Driving Permit (IDP). International Driving Permits where required, MUST BE accompanied by the original domestic licence of the driver. This is clearly stated on the international permit. An International permit presented without the domestic licence, will not be accepted.
UK license
It is a legal requirement that the driver must have both the card and the paper part of their UK license. Where the paper part is missing, the rental agent will be required to contact the DVLA to confirm that there are no endorsements on the license. In the event that we must contact the DVLA, an administration fee of €11.35 will apply to the rental. We can only contact the DVLA within their standard hours of operation which are Monday to Friday, 08:00-20:30 and Saturday 08:00-17:30. They are closed on Sunday. We accept no liability for changes to these hours. Where we cannot contact the DVLA, we accept no responsibility for a failed rental.
Age
The minimum age to rent a vehicle is 25 years. Minimum age may vary for different vehicle groups. There is no maximum age limit. Drivers may be requested to fill out a driver safety assessment form on collection.
Additional Drivers
Additional drivers can be added for a daily fee of €9.08. Additional drivers can be added on collection of the vehicle only. Normal age and licence restrictions apply. Please note unauthorised drivers are not covered by our insurance and are prohibited from driving the rental car. The additional driver must be present at time of pickup and must fulfil all the same criteria as the principle driver.

Follow the signs when exiting the baggage hall for Pre-booked Car Rental in Terminal One. The transfer takes approximately 4 minutes.

Travel to Northern Ireland
Should the client wish to drive in Northern Ireland it is a requirement of rental that they inform Dollar Thrifty Car Rental that they wish to do so prior to leaving the rental location. There is a nominal €34.05 fee when taking a car into Northern Ireland. Cars cannot be taken off the island of Ireland at any stage and must be returned in the Republic. Failure to purchase the required insurance will result in the renter accepting full responsibility for any recovery fees, should the car breakdown.

Advance reservations outside the above hours will be catered for where possiblen Please note that these reservations are on a request basis only. Where the out of hours reservation has been accepted, a fee of €40 is payable on arrival at the pickup location directly by the renter.
Flight Information
For all rentals commencing at an airport location, arrival flight information must be provided for bookings to be completed. Flights should be scheduled to land within our branch opening hours (see above). Where flight information is not provided or incorrect information is provided, we cannot be held responsible for a failed rental.
Car Returns
Cars may be returned outside the above location hours. There is a fee to cover parking charges as follows: Dublin Airport QuickPark €22.70, Dublin City €15, both including VAT. Fees are payable on collection of the vehicle and full return instructions will be given at this time. Cars that are returned outside the above location opening times will be charged for any damage or any loss incurred until the car is returned to the car rental company.

Whilst every effort will be made to supply the reserved model, we reserve the right to supply a suitable alternative. Please note that we cannot guarantee a particular make or model. Dollar Thrifty accepts no responsibility for costs incurred in the unlikely event of a vehicle not being available nor a suitable alternative being provided.
Fuel Policy
All rentals for 4 days and over will be charged locally for a full tank of fuel upon collection and should return it empty. No refunds will be issued for any unused fuel. Clients who do not purchase fuel in advance will be charged a refuelling surcharge if car is returned with less than a full tank. Our desk agent will provide more details on collection of the vehicle. No compensation will be given for fuel charges if a free upgrade to a larger car is given.
M50 Toll Information
Customers will be advised on collection of the vehicle what our M50 Toll Road policy is.
Traffic Fines
Speeding, parking and other endorsements/fines are the responsibility of the hirer in full. Dollar Thrifty Car Rental accepts no responsibility for any fine or payment. The renter is obliged to inform Dollar Thrifty Car Rental of any fines or parking tickets issued whilst the vehicle is being used by the renter. Where Dollar Thrifty receive a fine that was not settled when issued, the total cost of the fine, plus an administration fee of €30.00, will be charged to the main driver’s credit card.
Upgrades
If on arrival the client feels that the car they have booked is not suitable for their requirements, we will be happy to provide a larger vehicle if available. Upgrade charges are payable on arrival at the local daily rate. If a customer is given a free upgrade on arrival, we cannot accept any customer service queries regarding fuel or insurance cost.
Vehicle / Reservation Re-rent
Vehicles will only be held for 1 hour after the booked pickup time/landing time within our opening hours. After this time, the vehicle may not be available.

Personal Benefits Membership
PBM covers the driver for personal injuries or fatalities up to €31,750 in the event of an accident whilst in the vehicle.
GPS Units
Garmin Nuvi GPS units are available to rent at a cost of €10.00 per day to a maximum of €90.00 per rental.
Baby Seats
Baby seats are available by prior notification at the time of booking at an additional cost of €6.81 per day to maximum cost of €47.67 per rental. If more than one child seat is required per vehicle, there is a maximum cost of €73.78. Baby seats are forward facing and are suitable for children from 9 – 18KG. We cannot provide rear facing baby seats or baby seats for infants less than 9 KG.
Booster Cushions
Booster cushions are available by prior notification at the time of booking at an additional cost of €6.81 per day to maximum cost of €47.67 per rental. If more than one child seat is required per vehicle, there is a maximum cost of €73.78. Booster cushions are suitable for children up to 6 years.
The law in Ireland states that an appropriate child restraint MUST be used.
New EU Child Safety Protection Laws have come into force making it compulsory for all children to travel in the correct child seat, booster seat or booster cushion. Where safety belts have been fitted they must be worn. Children under 3 years of age must not travel in a car unless restrained in the correct child seat. Children aged 3 years or over who are under 150cms in height and weighing less than 36 kilograms (i.e. generally children up to 11/12 years old) must use the correct child seat, booster seat or booster cushion when travelling in cars. Child car seats must be in accordance with EU or United Nations- Economic Commission for Europe (UN-ECE) standards. Drivers have a legal responsibility to ensure passengers aged under 17 use the correct seat, booster seat, booster cushion or seatbelt.

Any customer services issues or complaints must be received in writing within 28 days of the termination of rental.
VAT
All of the above charges are INCLUSIVE of Government Tax (VAT) @ 13.5% which is subject to change.
Thrifty Car Rental Ireland accepts no responsibility for delays which may occur at the start of hire due to circumstances beyond our control.

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.
Vehicle capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
Refund Policy
We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds or penalties are detailed in the terms and conditions of your selected vehicle that you are asked to read and accept at time of booking. In the event you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.

Follow the signs when exiting the baggage hall for Pre-booked Car Rental in Terminal One. The transfer takes approximately 4 minutes.

Travel to Northern Ireland
Should the client wish to drive in Northern Ireland it is a requirement of rental that they inform Dollar Thrifty Car Rental that they wish to do so prior to leaving the rental location. There is a nominal €34.05 fee when taking a car into Northern Ireland. Cars cannot be taken off the island of Ireland at any stage and must be returned in the Republic. Failure to purchase the required insurance will result in the renter accepting full responsibility for any recovery fees, should the car breakdown.

Advance reservations outside the above hours will be catered for where possiblen Please note that these reservations are on a request basis only. Where the out of hours reservation has been accepted, a fee of €40 is payable on arrival at the pickup location directly by the renter.
Flight Information
For all rentals commencing at an airport location, arrival flight information must be provided for bookings to be completed. Flights should be scheduled to land within our branch opening hours (see above). Where flight information is not provided or incorrect information is provided, we cannot be held responsible for a failed rental.
Car Returns
Cars may be returned outside the above location hours. There is a fee to cover parking charges as follows: Dublin Airport QuickPark €22.70, Dublin City €15, both including VAT. Fees are payable on collection of the vehicle and full return instructions will be given at this time. Cars that are returned outside the above location opening times will be charged for any damage or any loss incurred until the car is returned to the car rental company.

Whilst every effort will be made to supply the reserved model, we reserve the right to supply a suitable alternative. Please note that we cannot guarantee a particular make or model. Dollar Thrifty accepts no responsibility for costs incurred in the unlikely event of a vehicle not being available nor a suitable alternative being provided.
Fuel Policy
All rentals for 4 days and over will be charged locally for a full tank of fuel upon collection and should return it empty. No refunds will be issued for any unused fuel. Clients who do not purchase fuel in advance will be charged a refuelling surcharge if car is returned with less than a full tank. Our desk agent will provide more details on collection of the vehicle. No compensation will be given for fuel charges if a free upgrade to a larger car is given.
M50 Toll Information
Customers will be advised on collection of the vehicle what our M50 Toll Road policy is.
Traffic Fines
Speeding, parking and other endorsements/fines are the responsibility of the hirer in full. Dollar Thrifty Car Rental accepts no responsibility for any fine or payment. The renter is obliged to inform Dollar Thrifty Car Rental of any fines or parking tickets issued whilst the vehicle is being used by the renter. Where Dollar Thrifty receive a fine that was not settled when issued, the total cost of the fine, plus an administration fee of €30.00, will be charged to the main driver’s credit card.
Upgrades
If on arrival the client feels that the car they have booked is not suitable for their requirements, we will be happy to provide a larger vehicle if available. Upgrade charges are payable on arrival at the local daily rate. If a customer is given a free upgrade on arrival, we cannot accept any customer service queries regarding fuel or insurance cost.
Vehicle / Reservation Re-rent
Vehicles will only be held for 1 hour after the booked pickup time/landing time within our opening hours. After this time, the vehicle may not be available.
Charging for No Shows
In the event of a No Show, you will be charged 1 day’s rental for vehicle Groups G, H, N, O, S.

Personal Benefits Membership
PBM covers the driver for personal injuries or fatalities up to €31,750 in the event of an accident whilst in the vehicle.
GPS Units
Garmin Nuvi GPS units are available to rent at a cost of €10.00 per day to a maximum of €90.00 per rental.
Baby Seats
Baby seats are available by prior notification at the time of booking at an additional cost of €6.81 per day to maximum cost of €47.67 per rental. If more than one child seat is required per vehicle, there is a maximum cost of €73.78. Baby seats are forward facing and are suitable for children from 9 – 18KG. We cannot provide rear facing baby seats or baby seats for infants less than 9 KG.
Booster Cushions
Booster cushions are available by prior notification at the time of booking at an additional cost of €6.81 per day to maximum cost of €47.67 per rental. If more than one child seat is required per vehicle, there is a maximum cost of €73.78. Booster cushions are suitable for children up to 6 years.
The law in Ireland states that an appropriate child restraint MUST be used.
New EU Child Safety Protection Laws have come into force making it compulsory for all children to travel in the correct child seat, booster seat or booster cushion. Where safety belts have been fitted they must be worn. Children under 3 years of age must not travel in a car unless restrained in the correct child seat. Children aged 3 years or over who are under 150cms in height and weighing less than 36 kilograms (i.e. generally children up to 11/12 years old) must use the correct child seat, booster seat or booster cushion when travelling in cars. Child car seats must be in accordance with EU or United Nations- Economic Commission for Europe (UN-ECE) standards. Drivers have a legal responsibility to ensure passengers aged under 17 use the correct seat, booster seat, booster cushion or seatbelt.

Any customer services issues or complaints must be received in writing within 28 days of the termination of rental.
VAT
All of the above charges are INCLUSIVE of Government Tax (VAT) @ 13.5% which is subject to change.
Thrifty Car Rental Ireland accepts no responsibility for delays which may occur at the start of hire due to circumstances beyond our control.

When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier's rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.
While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.
Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.
Information disclosure
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.
Vehicle capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
Refund Policy
We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds or penalties are detailed in the terms and conditions of your selected vehicle that you are asked to read and accept at time of booking. In the event you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
